Wayne Reynolds has brought action and bright colours to over 100 Magic cards over the years. His art is also seen in Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder books and other products. Here are five of my favourites of his Magic cards.
This card from Khans of Tarkir was one of my favourites in draft.
To Wayne Reynolds fell the task of giving us the first alternate version of a planeswalker in Magic. Ajani was one of the ‘Lorwyn five’ the first five planeswalkers introduced in Magic. This art was for the second version of Ajani, which represented his younger, more impulsive self.
Bold colours can still create a sombre scene as in this piece from the Innistrad set, showing a tired but stalwart defender of humanity.
Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician
This contradiction in terms (a goblin tactician?) is given suitable humour in this art.
